Last Saturday, September 7, the final of the Costa del Sol Tournament of the Málaga Provincial Council took place at the Martín Carpena, where Unicaja faced Baskonia, coached by Pablo Laso. The 38-year-old Spanish power forward, Carlos Suárez, with the permission of the club's board and coach Ibon Navarro, suited up for the last time to formalize his retirement from professional basketball, as he announced on his social media in early July.

During halftime of the game, a tribute was paid to the career of the power forward. The Martín Carpena stood up to offer an endless applause, to which Carlos Suárez responded with gestures and words of gratitude in the post-game interview.

"It was the most nervous I've ever been in a game, such a strange feeling... I felt nostalgic for all the moments I've lived in this club. I have felt very loved by the fans and the club. I want to thank Málaga, my teammates, and coaches who have been with me. I will always be grateful," said Carlos Suárez in his final interview as a professional player.

Carlos was formed in the youth categories of CB Estudiantes, where he made his ACB debut at 18. After six seasons with Estudiantes, he spent three seasons in Real Madrid, followed by a stint at Unicaja where he played for 9 consecutive seasons until 22-23. At 36, he ended his ACB journey and joined San Pablo Burgos in LEB Oro (now Primera FEB), then returned to CB Estudiantes in LEB Oro for his retirement.

With this event, the farewell of one of the most beloved and recognizable faces of the ACB in recent decades is completed. Surely, we will see him in the future cheering on his beloved Unicaja.
