NBA Rumors: Nikola Jokic Approaching Luka Doncic's Los Angeles Lakers

Yesterday, we learned that Nikola Jokic will not renew his contract with Denver Nuggets this summer. The Serbian still has 3 years left on the 5-year contract he signed for $276 million, considering that in the last season, he has a player option for $62.8 million. Jokic could have signed for 3 years in exchange for $200 million this summer, but as reported by ESPN, he will not, postponing his decision until the summer of 2026.

Thus, the NBA rumor mill has started buzzing, with the Los Angeles Lakers, including Luka Doncic. Since winning the championship a couple of years ago, the 3-time MVP has not had a deep enough team in Denver to help him win again, despite proving season after season that he is the best player in the world. For now, these are just speculations, but the Nuggets are aware that they cannot relax. That's why this year they have finally started to make moves, firstly, by changing the coaching staff and the front office, and then by making market moves like acquiring Cam Johnson and Bruce Brown.

We will see how the Nuggets perform this season, because if it doesn't go well for them, next summer we might be hearing more than just horse racing news about Nikola Jokic. For now, it's all speculation, but the Lakers are playing the long game, moving past LeBron and seizing the opportunity to pair Luka Doncic with Jokic if it arises.
