Spanish National Team: Sergio Scariolo's 12 for Eurobasket 2025

Spain goes to Eurobasket 2026 with what they have on.

Although it was expected that Sergio Scariolo would give more time for the possible recovery of Alberto Diaz, yesterday he finally decided on the 12 of the Spanish National Team for the Eurobasket 2026, leaving out the player from Malaga. It is a transitional Spanish team that competed at a high level against Germany yesterday in a tribute to Sergi Llull (defeat 105-106 after a great game).

The Spanish team will debut in the Eurobasket 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus, next Thursday, August 28th against Georgia and will do so without any experienced point guard after the withdrawal of Lorenzo Brown and the injuries of Juan Núñez and Alberto Diaz. The chosen point guards are Sergio de Larrea and Mario Saint-Supéry, who had some discomfort but seems to have overcome them. The rest of the chosen players are Josep Puerto, Jaime Pradilla, Xabi López-Aróstegui, Santi Aldama, Dario Brizuela, Willy Hernangómez, Santi Yusta, Juancho Hernangómez, Joel Parra, and Yankuba Sima.

Brizuela, Juancho, Willy, Pradilla, Aróstegui, and Parra were champions in 2022. Except for Santi Aldama, who is already seasoned with extensive international experience and whose contract was recently renewed by the Memphis Grizzlies, the rest have very little international experience at a high level, with players like Yusta, Puerto, or Sima who have not played in any championship in their careers. Nevertheless, the feelings in the matches against Germany and France have been good, and Sergio Scariolo's team will surely go out to compete in the Eurobasket 2026 where they are not seen as favorites.
