Durant and unfruitful negotiations with the Rockets to extend his contract
The veteran player could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if things don't change much with the Rockets.
Something big may be brewing in the NBA ahead of the 2026 free agency, as two of the great legends of this sport are likely to enter next year's summer as unrestricted free agents. LeBron's situation is considered a done deal, but Kevin Durant also seems destined for it.
According to the latest information from ESPN, discussions have already taken place between the Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant to explore a possible contract extension, but the player's demands are far from what the Texan franchise is willing to offer. They are aware that KD is a luxury addition for this season and do not want to jeopardize their future with a player of his age, prioritizing the young talents around whom they are building.
Since 2011, Kevin Durant has been enjoying a maximum contract, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to give it up to stay in a winning project like that of the Houston Rockets, or if he will maintain his ego and seek another alternative in free agency, from a team willing to offer him the maximum possible contract. What is clear is that the start of the season could be crucial in unlocking the situation one way or another.
