NBA Rumors: Anthony Davis Linked to the New York Knicks

Despite their solid start to the season with a record of 9-6, the New York Knicks are keeping their eyes on strengthening their roster with the declared goal of competing for the championship this very season. And, according to a reputable journalist, the New York franchise would be willing to explore the option of adding another star to their core.

Ian Begley of SNY stated he is "convinced" that the Knicks "would at least inquire" with the Dallas Mavericks about Anthony Davis if the Texan franchise decided to make him available, noting that the Madison Square Garden leadership "wants to win a title this year."

Davis' future in Dallas has come into question after the team's poor start (5-13) and the dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison. Begley clarified that if the Mavs were to offer the center at a price below market value, the Knicks wouldn't hesitate to consider that option: "This, again, is obvious. The Mavs will receive calls from almost all teams when/if they make him available."

The center is out with a calf injury and has only played five games this season. Since his arrival last season — in the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers — he has only participated in 14 of the last 46 games, missing a large part of the previous season due to a groin issue suffered on his debut.

A Competitive Leap for New York

The Knicks have a deep roster, led by the stellar duo of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. The addition of Davis would immediately raise the team's competitive ceiling, as when he is healthy, he remains one of the most dominant players on both ends of the court.

Begley added that the trade market "will truly take shape" in the next three to four weeks. With the deadline set for February 5th, an intense period of movement is expected as the Knicks — and the other contenders — seek to position themselves in the title race.
