Ja Morant is one of the great superstars of the NBA.

The transfer rumors surrounding Ja Morant, star of the Memphis Grizzlies, have gained strength in recent weeks. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Sacramento Kings are among the teams that have shown interest in a possible move for the point guard.

"The Sacramento Kings are among the teams that have inquired about the availability of Ja Morant and have indicated that the franchise will assess the market for Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan," Scotto wrote in a recent article.

So far, a trade for Morant has not materialized, but the Kings are positioning themselves as a franchise to watch as the market deadline approaches. The rumors stemmed from alleged previous tension between Morant and the coaching staff of the Grizzlies. Additionally, the player has dealt with various injuries.

When available, he has not shown the level he reached in his prime, leading some to believe that a change of scenery could help him regain his top form.

Kings and Grizzlies, two projects under pressure

Both the Grizzlies and the Kings have struggled at the beginning of the 2025-26 season. Memphis holds a record of 6-12, while Sacramento is at 5-13. Despite the Kings possibly heading towards a rebuild, Morant remains a prominent name on their radar. At only 26 years old, the Californian franchise might consider building around him if they were to acquire his services.

Currently, there are no signs of a deal being close. Nevertheless, if the Grizzlies continue to struggle for consistency, it will be interesting to see if they start entertaining offers for a potential trade involving Ja Morant.
