NBA Rumors: The 3 Stars With Which the Toronto Raptors Want to Strengthen Their Interior Game

The Toronto Raptors are strongly rumoured to be one of the teams willing to make a significant move before the end of the trade deadline. The Canadian franchise is looking to strengthen their frontcourt rotation, and in that context, a top-tier name has emerged: Sacramento Kings' All-Star center, Domantas Sabonis.

Insider Jake Fischer has reported that the Raptors have "officially expressed exploratory interest" in Sabonis, a three-time All-Star. The Lithuanian big man has led the NBA in rebounds in each of the last three seasons, also maintaining an average of 19 points per game during that period. Additionally, he has a remarkable ability to stretch the floor, shooting 37.7% from three-point range in his four seasons with the Kings, an uncommon skill for a player in his position.

In parallel, there has also been speculation that Toronto could be one of the teams interested in Anthony Davis, a ten-time All-Star currently with the Dallas Mavericks. It is believed that Dallas might be willing to put him on the market, despite contrary statements from former majority owner Mark Cuban.

However, a deal for Davis appears unrealistic for the Raptors. The high package of assets required for his acquisition, coupled with his ongoing physical issues and the challenge of staying available, make the operation particularly risky.

Daniel Gafford, a more realistic alternative from Dallas

With this scenario in mind, Raptors beat reporter Josh Lewenberg points to another option also coming from the Mavericks. He explains that Toronto is highly likely to make a move before the February trade deadline but might opt for a more achievable target than Davis.

Lewenberg indicates that the name gaining traction is Daniel Gafford. "If Dallas is truly open to trades, the most realistic target could be Daniel Gafford. It's a player I know the Raptors are interested in, they like, and have already inquired about," he stated.

Gafford consistently contributes around 10 points and 7 rebounds per game in recent seasons, along with close to one and a half blocks per game. He is an athletic, intense interior player capable of running the floor and protecting the rim. He can play both as a center and power forward.

With the Raptors fully immersed in the Eastern Conference battle for the first time in four years, the franchise is gearing up to make a leap when the time comes. The market is approaching, and Toronto seems ready to seize the opportunity.
