NBA Rumors: The Warriors and another team are going after Nic Claxton before the Trade Deadline

The impact of Nic Claxton on the Brooklyn Nets this season has been unquestionable, at least on one side of the court. The athletic center and defensive specialist was a key piece for the Nets to achieve the best defensive rating in the entire NBA during the month of December, leading the league in that category.

However, this performance has not translated into victories. Brooklyn remains at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, and in that rebuilding context, the name of Claxton has started to gain prominence in trade rumors among teams in need of defensive presence in the paint.

Claxton has a contract considered reasonable in the league. He has two more years left, with decreasing salaries: $25.5 million this season, $23 million next season, and $21 million in the final year. According to Michael Scotto from HoopsHype, the Nets "see him as part of their future, but it's evident that there is interest in him throughout the league." This balance between sporting value, age, and contract has made the center one of the most coveted pieces in the market.

Pacers and Warriors, on the hunt

Scotto points out two franchises that are pressing hard: the Indiana Pacers and the Golden State Warriors. Both teams are looking for clear solutions at the 'five' position. In the case of Indiana, the need has been evident since the surprising departure of Myles Turner last summer, when he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. Since then, the Pacers have tried to fill that void with Jay Huff and Isaiah Jackson, but have not found a definitive solution.

Golden State, on the other hand, has been looking for a reliable defensive center for even longer. Claxton would fit perfectly alongside Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, further complementing the defensive presence of Draymond Green. Pulling Claxton out of Brooklyn will not be easy. According to one of the reports cited, the Nets would not negotiate without the offer including, at minimum, an entirely unprotected first-round draft pick, along with other assets.

With the market approaching crucial moments, Claxton emerges as one of the big names to follow among teams looking to strengthen their interior defense without excessively compromising their salary flexibility.
