NBA Rumors: The 5 franchises pursuing Daniel Gafford

If the Dallas Mavericks decide to make a move at the center position before the market closes, all signs point to the fact that the name leaving the team will not be Anthony Davis, but rather Daniel Gafford. This is indicated in several reports around the league as the February 5 deadline approaches.

As reported by Hoops Wire, there is a clear consensus within the NBA: Gafford is the most easily tradable piece of the Mavericks. He is a productive player, with a manageable contract, whose profile seamlessly fits into the rotation of any championship contender as a finishing center, rebounder, and rim protector. In fact, if Dallas decides to readjust its roster, most executives expect Gafford to be the first name on the move.

This is not the first time the center has been linked to potential deals. There have been reports placing him as a key piece in a hypothetical agreement with the Indiana Pacers, a team in need of interior presence following the unexpected departure of Myles Turner last summer to Milwaukee. Gafford, a 6'10" center with a strong physical presence, stands out for his constant energy and ability to intimidate near the rim. He is a specialist in shot-blocking, closing the paint, and finishing pick-and-roll plays, where his leaping ability allows him to finish with spectacular dunks. This season, his production has slightly decreased: he averages 7.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in just 20 minutes per game. Nevertheless, his defensive impact remains noteworthy.

It is not surprising that the market shows much more interest in Gafford than in Anthony Davis. The veteran center, a ten-time All-Star, continues to struggle with physical issues that have limited him to only 29 games in the natural year he has been in Dallas. Added to this is a three-year, $175 million contract, with an average salary of $58 million annually, a figure that deters most teams.
