The Lakers, on the other hand, could present themselves as solid contenders due to the expected salary cap space they will have in the summer, as noted by Marc Stein on February 4. Fischer also emphasizes that the outcome of the playoffs could alter the landscape.

Teams like San Antonio or Houston could increase their interest if they encounter disappointment in the postseason. Even a franchise that was not active this winter could enter the fray if circumstances change.
