The chapter of Anthony Davis with the Washington Wizards could be shorter than expected. The center, who was traded from Dallas at the deadline, has yet to play a single game with his new team but is already seriously considering a change of scenery. According to journalist Evan Sidery, there is a widespread belief that Davis will request to leave. The reason is clear: his intention is to immediately compete for a title, something that Washington cannot offer him at this time.

In the same vein, Joshua Robbins from The Athletic suggests that the player will demand a meeting with the franchise's management this summer to firsthand understand their sports plans. The purpose of this meeting will be to determine if the Wizards have a realistic roadmap to contend for the championship in the short term, either next season or in 2027-28. Otherwise, Davis is determined to force his way out.

The player himself has hinted at his skepticism regarding the team's potential. In a recent appearance on Draymond Green's podcast, he admitted that he finds it hard to imagine a roster that finished with the worst record in the league becoming a title contender in just one year, even with himself and Trae Young.

Davis is guaranteed $58.5 million for the 2026-27 season and has a player option for $62.8 million for the following year. Additionally, he intends to sign a contract extension. However, his recent injury history raises doubts. In the last six seasons, he has only surpassed 60 games played once. This season, he has only played 20 games after participating in 51 the previous year.

The combination of his athletic aspirations, contractual situation, and injury history presents significant uncertainties. Both in Washington and throughout the league, it's unclear which team would be willing to commit long term to a player over 35 years old with an inconsistent physical record.
