The Pistons force Game 7 against Orlando after an impossible comeback

Throughout much of Game 6, Orlando Magic seemed to have full control. Their lead reached 24 points at the beginning of the third quarter, and everything indicated they were about to close out the 1st round series of 2026 NBA Playoffs against the Detroit Pistons and move on.

However, what followed was a drastic turnaround. Orlando's offense came to a complete halt, to the extent of accumulating a streak of 23 consecutive missed shots in over 12 minutes, a playoff record that ultimately changed the course of the game.

The offensive disarray was exemplified by actions like that of Desmond Bane, who, with no clear options, ended up shooting from 8.8 meters near the Kia Center logo. He missed that attempt and two previous three-pointers in a sequence that symbolized his team's lack of fluidity.

Meanwhile, the crowd shifted from initial euphoria to frustration, unable to comprehend how such a big lead was dissipating without a response.

Detroit regains its identity

On the other side, the Pistons capitalized on every opportunity. The team that had finished as the top seed in the East once again showcased the defense that had propelled them to 60 regular-season victories, sustaining their comeback to close the game with a 93-79 score, keeping the series alive.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff made his team's mindset clear after the game: “For us, it's not over until it's over.” He added, “And they keep impressing me. We have the mindset that they'll have to suffocate us. And if not, we'll keep fighting. And as they say, one of them will hit the head and we’ll have the opportunity to win games.”

A series that takes a different turn

The defeat is particularly harsh for Orlando, which had led the series 3-1 and had everything in their favor to close it out at home. Even without Franz Wagner, absent for a second consecutive game due to a right calf strain, the Magic had put Detroit on the ropes.

With 11:11 left to play in the third quarter and a 24-point lead, the scenario seemed perfect for sealing the win. But they never managed to deliver the final blow.

Everything will be decided in the seventh

Now, the dynamics have completely shifted. Detroit has regained confidence and heads into the seventh game at home with the chance to complete an improbable comeback and advance to the next round.

What seemed like a settled series has turned into an open battle, marked by one of the most surprising collapses of these playoffs.
