NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Among the 4 Teams Interested in a Possible Future Champion

The New York Knicks continue to make progress towards winning a long-awaited championship, but the future of one of their key players is far from certain. Mitchell Robinson will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, a situation that has already attracted the interest of several NBA franchises.

According to journalist Jake Fischer, up to four teams are planning to strongly pursue the Knicks' backup center when the time comes to negotiate his signing.

"The teams that have been mentioned to me consistently when inquiring about Robinson's situation are the Bulls, Hornets, Lakers, and Raptors," Fischer pointed out.

Four contenders to strengthen the center position

The four mentioned teams have recently surfaced in rumors related to enhancing the center position.

In the case of the Los Angeles Lakers, the need to find a starting center has been a priority for years. The experience with Deandre Ayton last season did not provide the expected solution, so it is expected that the Los Angeles franchise will make a significant effort to try to add a player like Robinson, whose athletic ability, shot-blocking, and above-the-rim play align with what the team is looking for.

The Toronto Raptors are also among the suitors. The Canadian franchise aims to add more physicality and explosiveness to their frontcourt and emerges as another candidate to bid for Robinson. To do so, they could try to free up salary space by trading their current starting center, Jakob Poeltl.

Poeltl still has four years left on his contract after signing an extension valued at $104 million last summer.

The Chicago Bulls are entering a new phase after trading their long-time starting center Nikola Vucevic this season at the trade deadline. The move is part of the rebuilding process the franchise has undertaken.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets see in Robinson a piece that would fit perfectly alongside their promising young core of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Ron Knueppel. Additionally, the franchise could explore a sign-and-trade deal with the Knicks to try to acquire his services.

The Knicks already have a significant amount of resources committed at the center position, as Karl-Anthony Towns will earn an average of $59 million per season over the next two years.
