The surprising player who has received praise from LeBron James: "He's one of my favorites"

LeBron James faces a new stage in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers after concluding his time in Los Angeles. At 41 years old, the forward joins a team that aims to compete for the title and will have to prove its potential in an increasingly demanding Eastern Conference. Among his possible rivals will be the Miami Heat, who have strengthened their roster with great players intending to make a leap in quality and become title contenders.

“Bobby Portis is one of my favorite players, I love him”

LeBron spoke about Miami's moves on Mind the Game, the podcast he shares with Steve Nash. During the conversation, the Sixers player highlighted Bobby Portis, one of his favorites, and praised both his character and experience.

“Bobby Portis is one of my favorite players, I love him,” acknowledged the forward. He then explained the qualities he values most in the power forward: “He is a player who brings character, intensity, and competitiveness. Moreover, he is a winner and another champion. He has been through these kinds of situations and knows what it takes to go far.”

James thus emphasized Portis's experience and his ability to contribute to a team that aspires to compete for everything in the NBA.

The forward also expressed excitement about the Heat's moves, although he acknowledged that it would be necessary to see how the new pieces fit together. “It’s a very exciting team. Now we have to see how all the pieces fit, although I think they will do well,” he concluded.

“They are going to be damn good”: LeBron highlights Miami's potential

The potential of the Heat was also one of the central themes of the conversation between LeBron and Nash. When asked about the moves of the Florida franchise, the forward did not hide his optimism and predicted a good performance from the team.

“I think they are going to be a really good team. We have seen what Bam Adebayo has been capable of doing over the past seasons. Also, he is starting to shoot much more from three-point range, and that is fundamental,” he pointed out.

James also explained how Adebayo's outside threat can benefit Giannis Antetokounmpo. In his view, the space available on the court will be key for the Greek player to showcase his best basketball.

“We know he needs space. He wants to have space and knows how to create it. It’s when he plays best, when he can attack from 45 degrees or find gaps to penetrate, with teammates around him opening up the court,” he commented.

LeBron trusts the Heat's defense and Spoelstra's work

Beyond their offensive possibilities, James emphasized Miami's defensive potential. The forward highlighted Andrew Wiggins, Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Davion Mitchell as players capable of contributing significantly in that aspect.

“Defensively I think they are going to be damn good. You have Andrew Wiggins, Bam, Giannis, and Davion Mitchell. They are players who base a good part of their game on defense. They are going to be very good in that regard,” he stated.

Finally, LeBron emphasized the role of coach Erik Spoelstra in managing the roster and placing each player in the right position. He also valued the impact that the arrival of Klay Thompson could have, especially on Adebayo's game.

“Spoelstra always knows how to place the pieces and position each player correctly. And then there’s Klay. I think his arrival gives Bam more confidence because he knows he will have a bit more space on the court,” James concluded.
