It's not a good time for the interests of the New Orleans Pelicans in recent years. They pinned their hopes of glory on the Draft selection of Zion Williamson, but the constant injuries of the atypical young player have cast doubt on the Louisiana team's project as they embark on a new season. What is their great threat?

They are one of the franchises that have yet to experience winning a championship ring, and one of the furthest from being able to reverse that situation. New Orleans Pelicans is a small market, with great difficulties in attracting talent, and their big bet is not going well. They continue to rely on a competitive resurgence of Zion Williamson who will have Murray and Poole as lieutenants this year, two players as unstable as they are talented, but also Herb Jones and Trey Murphy, key components of any aspiring project.

Both players are so highly valued across the entire NBA that offers are constantly coming in for them to the management of New Orleans Pelicans. So much so, that many already believe that a shaky start to the season by the Louisiana team would lead to the dissolution of this project as they would be forced to consider offers for both players. It will be crucial to closely monitor Zion's availability at the start of the season and how the team performs.

Rival teams will be closely monitoring the Pelicans, more specifically Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III, as trade targets.
