Precious Achiuwa was waived by the Miami Heat before the start of the regular season, and since then, the Nigerian center has been waiting for a new opportunity in the NBA. All signs point to that call potentially coming from Sacramento.

According to journalist Jake Fischer, the Sacramento Kings are seriously considering adding the former player of the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors. The interest arises just a week after Achiuwa changed his representation agency, a move that could have accelerated the discussions.

Achiuwa, 26, began his NBA journey in the 2020-21 season when the Miami Heat selected him in the first round of the draft. However, he had limited minutes to showcase his potential, averaging just over 12 minutes per game. After that season, he was sent to Toronto in the sign-and-trade deal that brought Kyle Lowry to Florida, where he displayed a more solid version, nearly doubling his playing time and contributing energy off the bench with averages close to nine points and six rebounds over two seasons.

His subsequent stint in New York came as part of the trade involving OG Anunoby, and at Madison Square Garden, he maintained his role as a reliable rotation big man. However, after becoming a free agent following the 2024-25 season, the Knicks chose not to re-sign him. This fall, he returned to Miami on a training camp deal but did not make the final cuts.

Sacramento, a new opportunity in the NBA?

Reports had emerged from Europe — as reported by BasketNews — indicating the interest of several EuroLeague teams in the player. However, Sacramento seems willing to offer him a new chance in the top league in the world, bolstering their frontcourt depth.

If the deal goes through, various reports suggest that Issac Jones could be waived to make room for him on the roster. Achiuwa would bring energy, physical presence, and defensive versatility to the Kings' center rotation, aligning with the California team's ambition to continue growing in the Western Conference.
