NBA Rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo Could End Up With the Cleveland Cavaliers

The upcoming summer market could once again be defined by the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo. A new trade proposal raises the possibility of the star leaving the Milwaukee Bucks to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, in a move that would shift the balance of power in the Eastern Conference. The concept is presented in a column by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, focused on envisioning the perfect move for each team in the summer of 2026.

Under this scenario, Cleveland would acquire Antetokounmpo, while Milwaukee would receive a package consisting of Evan Mobley, Max Strus, Tyrese Proctor, a 2026 first-round draft pick (projected at number 29), another first-round pick in 2031, and a 2030 picks swap. The fact that both teams compete in the same division reduces the likelihood of such a trade materializing, although Mobley's value could make him a crucial piece in any negotiation.

The power forward from Cleveland is seen as one of the league's best two-way players. With Antetokounmpo reaching the later stages of his career and coming off a season plagued by injuries, Mobley could be one of the most appealing assets the Bucks could receive in exchange for their star. The proposal suggests that Milwaukee would embark on a new era with a young, high-caliber player, along with multiple draft picks and rotation pieces.

If the trade goes through, Antetokounmpo would join James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, and Jarrett Allen in the Cavaliers, forming a quartet of stars that would make the team a top title contender. The prospect is notably intriguing due to the potential partnership between Antetokounmpo and Mitchell, while the team's core could remain intact if Harden exercises his player option. In that scenario, Cleveland would also feature players like Jaylon Tyson, Sam Merrill, and Dennis Schröder.

In the last trade deadline, Milwaukee showed no urgency to move their star, but discussions about his future are expected to resume once the season concludes. Antetokounmpo, a future Hall of Famer, boasts two MVP awards, a Finals MVP, a Defensive Player of the Year accolade, and ten All-Star selections. Additionally, he holds a player option of $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

The Bucks may offer him an extension in October, though the decision will hinge on the path the player wishes to take.
